Being half Norwegian(grandfather's name is Erling), a former publisher of Organic Gardening magazine, currently operating an urban organic CSA farm for my neighbors, healthy 80 year old, I'm wondering if Mr. Haaland is aware of MAHA's support of the MAGA and Trump agenda? I've said over and over that I support much of MAHA's agenda; however, I only hear about and from Republican politicians and the likes of Steve Bannon, Ron Johnson, and other right-wing politicians and pundits. More folks like Charles Eisenstein and other non aligned with the MAGA agenda, please.
MAGA launched MAHA. Senator Ron Johnson is a MAHA warrior. He was going to retire, but decided not to, instead stayed on to fight for MAHA. He's a great man.
MAHA was a leftist agenda until Covid hit and the Democrats all sided with Big Pharma and the “safe and effective” mantra. I’m not a Trump or MAGA supporter, but if they promote MAHA, then I am more likely to vote Republican than the Democrats that abandoned us.
Like Big Pharma, Big Ag is interested in only one thing: selling as much of their products as possible and maximizing profits. And like Big Pharma, Big Ag couldn't care less about producing healthy or safe products or what their products do to the health of the people who consume them. This must change.
This is especially true for the "organic" wing of Big Ag. They simply use different pesticides that are not monitored for residue on food by the USDA. They have massive price mark-ups that are pure profit
Big ag is not the reason for this - its not legal here to sell raw milk, it must be treated by law - farmers could care less as they just drink it from the tank, but who decide what we are allowed to eat ? Politicians and they use "experts" who profits from you getting sick. Farmers have been under constant attack for decades by the global warming hoax extremists who all live in Citys and have no idea how to even grow a potato ! But will probably end destroying farming so much that we get into a holodomor - just the bovaer in Denmark was mindblowing how retarded this climate change death cult can be -- and they claim to care about the animals - but only when it fits the agenda
I hope this is changing, but Big AG was the problem just a short time ago. In my state, The Department of Agriculture went after an Amish farmer, entrapped him and then put him through years of lawfare that destroyed him mentally. The lobbying group for dairy is strong in my state and have actively prevented raw milk from being sold direct to consumeror to retail. They also attacked co-op farm groups who were doing it in a legal way.

I'm well aware that things are changing and getting better. But it will take a long time for decades of rot and corruption to be corrected. We have a very long way to go.
Sonia Nordenson, who replied to Barbara Charis about her bad experience with meat and dairy, makes the crucial point that people are different. Five hundred years ago most people were like their neighbors, having evolved (the hard way, by not dying young) to survive environmental factors they couldn't change. Americans today descend from all over the place and hence have different survival strategies. If you're of Scandinavian descent, your body is probably very comfortable with a meat-and-milk-heavy diet; those who insisted on plant-only meals would have starved around February. On the other hand, my Mediterranean physique prefers my meat cooked up with a good helping of vegetables (preferably in wine) and my dairy in the form of a bit of hard cheese grated on top; lots of meat takes me forever to digest and as for milk - you really don't want to know. I realize a point is being made by this article but some subtlety is always appreciated. And by the way, I lived through the 1960s. I know the 1960s. Even us kids knew that a bowl of Captain Crunch, fortified with vitamins though it might be, was not a healthy breakfast. We just pretended we believed it so our parents would buy it.
Now make raw milk legal so it can be available everywhere. When I luved in Illinois I bought raw milk from two different dairy farms for 10 years. No one ever got sick, I always had a little cream to add when cooking, and no issues with lactose intolerance . I personally think homogenization is an absolute villian abd causes health problems, and gut issues.
Have read all this stuff elsewhere. Don't care. I got my milk from my neighbor's herds, whose animals were tb tested constantly. Their families drank it too . They observed extreme cleanliness in milking and handling protocols. I know that in 10 years we never experienced a single problem, nor did the dairy farm's families. I'll take lived experience on this issue over fear.
In 1961, I started studying health and nutrition by experimenting with available information. In following the recommendations of a well known food industry trained R. D. whose books promoted a high protein diet, I wound up fat and lethargic with unnatural cells at every check-up; and my little son and I had colds and sore throats frequently. Then, we both had to have our tonsils removed at the same time.
In the past I looked at world health statistics and Scandinavian countries have a high cancer and heart rate.. They eat a lot of dairy and meat. I went to a well known nutritional doctor (Paavo Airola) from Finland in 1976 and he didn't promote meat, but he told me that I needed to have a lot of dairy, because I was expecting to nurse a new baby very shortly. I followed his advice and wound up with a rapidly growing tumor. Two doctors told me that they would offer me 'no guarantees', unless this vaginal tumor was surgically removed ASAP.. I did not immediately comply. I told the second doctor that i was going to go home and say a prayer.. He told me not to pray too long. Well,I prayed and a book on raw fruit and vegetables came into my hands and I felt it contained the answer. I stopped the dairy and only ate raw fruit and vegetables...and in less than 3 months the tumor totally disappeared. In 1988, twelve years later, I developed another tumor above my right breast...an ugly bulbous growth with spikes coming out of it. My children were horrified and told me to have it removed immediately. I knew that I had eliminated a food previously to get rid of the tumor, so I checked my foods carefully to see what could have caused it. I became aware that i was going through a lot of honey daily in my herb teas, so I stopped the honey...and in less than three months there was only a little pink spot, where the tumor had been. I learned the protein-fat in the dairy had caused the growth of the first tumor; and the excess carbs in the honey created the second one. I am doing great health wise at 92, because I make sure that I AM NOT EATING EXCESS protein and fat . Nothing grows WITHOUT A FUEL... and tumors are not an exception. I keep daily records of the foods I eat...and keep the protein and fat down. Protein and fat are acidic, which draw calcium from the bones to neutralize it. The body needs to be more alkaline. .Raw is very important, so I avoid processed foods and shop mainly in the produce section. This young 25 year old athlete is doing well now, but there is no guarantee what his health will be like at 50. ,
Barbara, I want to respectfully point out that your story and genetics are your own and your experience doesn't apply to everyone. I grew up drinking raw milk, and have for most of my life enjoyed a big spoonful of raw honey in my morning tea. I'm now 80, and in good health—an omnivore who eats plentiful organic vegetables and fruits and lots of dairy products. I use some supplements, and no prescribed medications. I'm half Swedish, and I thrive on the Scandinavian dairy-and-meat diet. Not everyone does, but (my point) not everyone doesn't.
Raw honey is not bad, but it along with all the other carbs people eat can put one over the amount of carbs needed daily..and can cause weight gain. i gain weight very easily, so I have to be extra careful about the carbs. My weight is perfect now, and I want to keep it where it is. I get my carbs from all the raw fruit I eat.
Time alone will tell how people's diets are doing. The composition of milk coming from different species is entirely different. Milk from the bovine species was designed for the 500 # growth of a baby calf in its first 9 months. Human breast milk is designed for a 14 pound growth in the first 12 months of a human infant. Milk is designed for the young of a species, before they have teeth. Humans are the only species who drinks milk, after weaning. The last serious problem i had that made me ill for a month, was after I started drinking half and half in coffee for about a month ...and I wound up in bed with a horrible cough in 1997.. I have not had one cough, cold, sore throat, since then. I use coconut milk in my coffee along with Kal Liquid sweetener. Everybody is different, but it is good to be aware, if you do wind up with a problem.
Thanks for your insightful personal story, and great that you've demonstrably hit on a diet regimen that really works for you! I was wondering if the protein sources and milk that you were consuming back in the 1970's were from organic sources, or were they produced with chemicals and toxins? Could that make a difference in how your body reacted to them adversely? So wonderful you are strong and healthy at 92!
When my last child was born in 1976, I nursed him and then looked for a place i could get raw goats milk. I was living in the Mojave Desert at the time...and had to drive 75 miles round trip to a farm that had goats. He did very well on the goat's milk. The word organic wasn't used in the 70s. However, I did know raw was best and it was not easy to find.
Excellent comment. Thank you and good for you that you are doing well at 92! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. Lots of science shows a connection between bovine milk and human breast cancer thought due to the hormones and insulin growth factor in the milk. But scientist T. Colin Campbell famously did experiments on mice that showed he could turn tumor growth on and off by giving and stopping the feeding of casein, of course, milk protein. He concluded that bovine casein is the most powerful carcinogen. I agree with you that the young athlete is doing well now but follow up when he is older. What we eat takes a toll with time.
I'm so happy to see raw milk on mainstream media as a positive thing as it has been wrongly attacked for so many years. I started drinking it 25+ years ago and have been amazed at how less often I was ill and how I recovered more quickly. I was in a university study years ago where I learned in a discussion group that it also protects your skin from the sun. Looking back, I wasn't getting burned as often. Just another of the many benefits.
50% of Americans are diabetic…. You can’t even get this type of milk for a good price at your local Walmart who has the cheapest prices… if this were true; America would be doing a lot more to bring its people back to local organic farming and making it more affordable. He is on a diet very far from American society I am sure.

Agreed. MAHA should be non-partisan, so it reaches and benefits EVERYONE.
My husband and I shifted to raw milk years ago. I’m so close to the source now, I’ve actually milked the cow myself.
That doesn't make it any safer, here's why:
