I have a measured view on abortion. I believe it is a personal decision until the point of viability of a fetus is reasonably established. I guess that will change as we become better able to determine that.
It stirkes me as hypocritical that we have a large swath of our population who favor laws allowing unfettered access to abortion ( on demand), even at any point in a pregnancy, but vehemently oppose the exemptions for mandatory vaccination of someone elses child, to access a publicly funded right to education.
The pro vaccine crowd argues that the unvaccinated child is a threat to them. This of course is nonsense at the individual level. They argue "herd immunity." Which is simply nonsense at the individual level. They argue "what about my immunocompromised child, who can't be vaccinated." Never considering that during infancy there are thousands of babies who are needlessly inject with toxins, absent any attempts to determine, at the individual level, whether or not those ingredients in fact. will harm them.
They simply utter the propaganda driven platitude that 'Vaccines are safe and effective." They are not for many.
As a farmer, I think you may understand my concern better than most. You work with living things. You observe their particular histories and vulnerabilities. Good stewardship requires attention, not simply following a rule because it applies generally.
So why does a mother need a religious exemption before her concerns about a medical intervention for her child are respected?
A mother knows her child as an individual, not a population statistic. She asks questions, weighs risks and benefits, listens to physicians—and gives or withholds informed consent. Why should her conscience become more worthy of protection because she can attach a religious belief to it?
There is a deeper question for religion as well. For centuries we have overwhelmingly imagined God and divine authority as male. Why should a mother have to appeal to religion to validate her moral authority concerning the child she carried and brought into the world?
Religion may inform a mother’s conscience. It should not determine whether her conscience counts.
Perhaps we need to begin somewhere deeper: reverence for the mother, reverence for the child, and respect for the profound responsibility of caring for life.
Now that is an intelligent response. Yet, we all know that the "religious" exemption is to garner even more support among a specific cohort. It's a shame that "tactics" ar even needed here. "Politics" is going to bury us all.
An exceptionally broad exemption with no verification required, and federal financial coercion overriding state public-health judgments. "States rights," not.
"Safe and effective" just means, "it didn't happen to me.." When vaccine makers have virtual complete legal liability protection, they simply don't give a shit.
