West Virginia health secretary Arvin Singh is investing nearly $200 million in a prevention-first model he calls a stress test for American healthcare.
It would be something to start school gardens at every school. Grow fruits and vegetables and have classes for kids in growing. The food can be part of school lunches and breakfasts. We need schools to strt community programs to engage the families . Training for food gardener teachers. Let Food be thy medicine.
We are in Appalachia, and there is a program where food from our farm is brought to schools for a "farm store" program where kids learn to buy healthy food. But the addition of gardens would be even better!
Also, we provide veggies for a Farmacy program wherein people with diabetes and other chronic health problems are prescribed a weekly bag of fresh produce, along with help learning how to use it. Singh is on the right road with his prevention program. However, data centers are deadly. They use a tremendous amount of water, which is precious. There are areas in the USA that face water shortages already and Data Centers use billions of gallons of water...with claims it is being contaminated. Water is critically needed for humans and agriculture...AI data centers aren't.

We are starting to move in the right direction... "Creating Health" is a different conversations requiring a separate plan of action and construct from "Healthcare Reform"... and we need both

Bravo, great initiative. It’s all about education. Teaching at a young age , it will follow throughout their lives. Understanding the whys of exercise, proper nutrition, sleep and loving oneself.
What about funding to train some locals to be midwives? What about funding to establish a network of local regenerative /organic farms and farmer training? How about then funding for a program to get the produce to the families, like a mobile farmers market? (I like to hear that some schools already have a program.) what about funding to provide satellite internet to all these people who don’t have that service, until funding is provided to get service established?

80 million tons of coals are mined per year in WV. Second only to Wyoming, twice as much as Pennsylvania.

I live in a small town and understand the struggle to get good food and healthcare. I’d love for everyone to have quality access…
Hopefully, we’ll get to see a follow up piece in a year and 5 years down the road so we can either duplicate this plan or ditch it.
