While all 50 states may have applied for the rural health grant monies, at least North Carolina's application, and for that matter CMM's grant priorities still read like old school conventional medicine approach. When NC was asked on the application if they are making steps towards removing processed food from the schools the answer was "not at this time." You can't get more foundational and basic than this in helping all communities, including rural, and including the most vulnerable. I don't think NC or any state should receive grant monies if they can't be on board with this basic and foundational change. If this is to be helping rural communities, why can't the schools in those areas agree to partner with small farmers for farm to school programs? No removing root causes i.e. ultra-processed foods, no monies.
