At the Children’s Health Defense conference Thursday, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. highlighted the administration’s efforts on vaccine safety, chronic disease, autism, ultra-processed foods and more.
Kennedy is the living example that being in opposition - see when he was president of CHD - is one thing, and being in power - see his position as HHS secretary - is another. Likewise, criticizing is easy, building is hard. Likewise, criticizing is the easy part, the hard part is building. This is mainly what Kennedy is doing as HHS secretary, despite his flaws. Nobody is perfect

I commend the Secretary for doing what he has done. He's made the most changes of any HHS Secretary that I can recall in my lifetime. While the accomplishments of HHS in DC are happening faster than at the usual glacial speed they do, his leadership and being out and about has really inspired the biggest changes at the state level. Getting things actually changed is less difficult at the state level than at the federal level. The policies he's championed now will likely continue at the state level across this nation, beyond the next 2 years.
That said, as a veterinarian, I have yet to see any meaningful changes in the way the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) goes about things. On human issues, the CDC, NIH and FDA have made broad strides away from the unquestioned corporate capture of the last many decades. Not so in the veterinary realm. From what I can tell, the veterinary part of FDA is still quietly chugging away as it always has, glad that the spot light hasn't been on them. I understand that MAHA is mainly people focused but the animal sector of our society, whether pets or livestock, is still seeing products and issues getting approved without much attention to mRNA vaccines (actually veterinary vaccines are a USDA), antibiotic overuse, etc. For example, just look at the CVM's veterinary GRAS listing... about the only natural thing on that list is marigold extract (used for industrial poultry feed to enhance the color of egg yolks). There are many products on that list that utilize genetic engineering.
Additionally and importantly, if Secretary Kennedy were to terminate Compliance Policy Guide, Sec. 440.100 (a gift to Pharma) as Trump's first HHS Secretary Azar did (but was reversed by Biden's HHS Secretary), re-purposing of older cheaper drugs could truly be accomplished, especially grand-fathered botanical medicines that were mainstream prior to the existence of the FDA.
It's awesome to have him exposing everything and looking for solutions. The one that hits me is reintroducing good saturated fats which address so many diseases - dementia, Alzheimer's, ALS, MS, and many other neurological diseases purposefully meant to destroy lives. I do wish he would set up a program to help us that grow our own gardens. It's expensive and even the organic soil you buy has plastic in it. Seeds, soil, and natural amendments are expensive. Greenhouses are cheaply made and expensive too. It all starts at home and then spreads to your community.
If anyone has worked in corporate America or in any form of govt in this country you know how long adverting change can take. The American citizens need to understand how to advocate for change firmly and have patience. These are the questions the press should be asking! Why so long?
