Finally! Real food without contamination of chemicals and nutritional guidelines from HEALERS- Not SickCare DEALERS who profit from making and keeping Americans sick and broke. Hallelujah!

Well you really don't know much about science. The amound of fat-soluble toxin in industrial meat farming is unreal. You need to read his report and the science.

Thank you for your concern. I don’t eat beef as it is full of toxins. Real food and nutritional guidelines are the first step toward healing the American food supply and putting the Insurance Mafia and Big Pharma drug and disease peddlers out of business. The money extorted by law from my Social Security and from others’ personal finances can be spent on good food and alternative healthcare, NOT programmed SICKCARE.

What "toxins" exactly? Be specific. Do you even know the scientific definition?

As a medical doctor working in diabetes mellitus this Guide is based in science. Sugar is the original cause of the PANDEMIC of Obesity, Diabetes mellitus type 2, Insulin Resistance and cardiovascular pathology. Finally we have a scientific Guidelines.

Really you work in this space? I don’t know. First of all as you must know, sugar is what? Glucose right, at least that is the molecular structure once we process food. And sure there is way too much sugar (be it monosaccharides or polysaccharides), but the MAHA report doesn’t really tackle this. Moreover Jorge, as a doctor, you know that alcohol is a complex sugar isn’t it. Why was this specific cause of empty calories and sugar intake removed?

Bad policy replaced with bad policy. And professionals supporting bad science in service of their political beliefs - sorry not for me.

Well Josh, here we go with the ad hominem attacks and reverential quoting of The Experts™ and The Science™ ala Fauci, telltale signs of Lefty groupthink. And the scientific sounding but totally nonspecific terms like "fat-soluble toxin." Read on to see the opinions of real clinicians treating real victims of the unfortunate government sponsored dietary advice of the last 70 years.

And so the response to bad guidelines are more bad guidelines? Sorry Glenn, yeah terms like “fat soluble” have to enter into the discussion. Because it is science and while one can, I suppose, forgive your improper use Latin phrases - science is objective and takes training. Like Dr. Fauci. And about the Latin - I did not write anything that could be even remotely considered a personal attack.

Just because you can spell it Glenn doesn’t mean you understand it.

OK, I'm not a politically correct person (nor have I ever aspired to be), but I'll suggest anthropologically-based foods if that doesn't offend you.

Basically people should eat with their background genetics in mind. Kind of like dogs and cats being healthier when eating raw meat diets like their wild cousin wolves and tigers do (and NOT highly processed kibble), people ought to eat as our dental anatomy suggests: more meat (ethically, pasture raised) with saturated fats and dairy with saturated fats and bioavailable calcium, as well as greens and fruits.

Could we get prices for organic, Non-GMO, and non bio-engieered foods down a bit? That's all I buy for my family! Publix GreenWise brand is very good, lots of choices and affordable but we need more! Great start though...very happy about this!

Expand full comment
TeeJae's avatar

Yes! I regularly shop at Publix, Kroger and Wegmans, and buy ONLY their store-brand organic options (which are much LESS expensive) when available. This cuts down on my grocery bills considerably!

Dr. Karreman, The Organic Vet's avatar

It's sad yet true that organic prices actually reflect what food actually costs. Since organic doesn't rely on subsidy crutches line conventional, the price of organic strongly reflects (1) supply and demand (2) cost of labor (more needed when not using pesticides), (3) no environmental clean up costs (born by taxpayers) and (4) retailers trying to get the highest possible price point before demand falls. Except for (4), when paying for organic food, all inputs are accounted for and there are no hidden costs to be borne by society later.

It’s a step in the right direction because it features real food. But this needs to be a plate so it is easier for people to see how to construct their own plates. I’m not seeing beans. Perhaps take a bite out of the Bastyr plate which also has a section for a variety of fermented foods. Now work on making food affordable again.

Dairy isn't food, it's rape. Please everyone, end this practice. There's plenty of nourishment minus slaughtering and sexually violating. Anyone, who attempts to attack for sharing this truth, will immediately be blocked. I pray most with have a discerning eye or whatever sense to see.

We have a small herd of dairy cows that graze the landscape. Each cow gets to raise its own calf for 6-8 months when natural weaning happens. We also have a herd of bulls that breed cows ... when a cow comes into heat she loons for a bull "to do it" and there he is. Our herd has cows that live into their teens.

Unfortunately too many people see any and all livestock keeping as industrial, which there certainly is. But there are many ethical small dairy farms that keep animals connected to the landscape, where people and animals bond over many years, and where people care for their small herd and the animals don't die of starvation, predation or diseases like all wildlife dies.

Fiber? No mention that I can see. I doubt the Blue Zone, China Study, Esselystyn, Gregor people agree. But these recommendations are for the most part an improvement on the Standard American Diet (except for protein - could have negative consequences for some).

Real food finally is Protein and Fat like eggs , cheese. Ultraprocessed foods with too much SUGAR are the real problem. Obesity, Insulin resistance, Diabetes mellitus type 2 , Cardiovascular Risk factors are caused by Ultraprocessed foods high in sugars and fructose. The Mediterranean diet, fasting or cetogenic will improve the health of the people. Finally honest data support this new Guidance. US children are going to be free of Obesity.

The food industries are high in anxiety today.

I wish but I think that food industries are celebrating. The "big 10" food corporations are inextricably linked to the meat industry.. like incestuous siblings. So these new recommendations line the pockets of this small set of massive global corporations. And please remember that the food industry also links to big pharmaceutical. How convenient.

It must be very uncomfortable when decades of dogma that has become entrenched and ingrained (essentially brain-washing people) is challenged by practical, time-honored ways of providing food. I was reading an article in STAT yesterday on this topic (with an ad inserted by Merck) and its horror that people coming up with the new pyramid had industry ties. I wrote them back saying that's like the pot calling the kettle black - as if other food pyramid builders from Ansell Keys forward had no industry ties.

If you think about the Merck ad, they should be happy since they sell livestock drugs, too. They have all the bases covered and you probably didn't even know it because they've (Pharma) become such daily part of life.

It's a breath of fresh air to see a food pyramid which gives more credence to dietary ingredients which mankind has been genetically designed to eat.

Real food? What an insane position. Sorry, Pat, there are many “real” foods that are not good for you. How much time do you have? We can start with biology and next week we will tackle basic (or general) chemistry. Of course we will have to discuss some physics and organic chemistry to model out metabolism. But we can go there. Anything to help wipe out the mess that is RFK Jr and his irresponsible positions. And guess what Pat - I can buy a ticket on an airplane, board it legally and still hijack it. Food for thought.
