Pharmacist Amy Sapola explores Inner Fire, a Vermont wellness farm offering an alternative approach to mental health care through rhythm, community, and meaningful work.
I’ve seen so much pharmaceutical addiction it’s crazy. My daughter became addicted to pharmaceuticals and it destroyed her life before killing her. I lost that battle because she believed the false diagnosis given to her by a therapist. I teach fitness in a detox and over and over I see the same people return. It’s heartbreaking. It’s a money game. I’ve now witnessed 3 decades of destruction by a failed system that supports big pharma. The truth is connecting with nature is the way back. Understanding that nature demonstrates everything we need to learn. So yes, farms but also education. Not religious but spiritual education that helps people realize their individual purpose . This could potentially be exactly what’s needed if done properly.
The Medical Profession disables, kills, maims. It is very sad and troubling.
Of course there are necessary interventions.
MD's are the delivery crew with infinite get out of out jail passes.
The solutions are anything but novel. Grow as much food as you can, spending time outside getting fresh air and exercise. Meaningful work is a huge win.
Religions indoctrinate. As you point out spiritual development is necessary.
And yet legitimate pain patients who desperately need medication are left to suffer needlessly and treated as drug addicts. It's a very cruel and callous system.
Every major health issue I've suffered in my life, and that would be several, all caused by iatrogenics. And they've all been major and life altering. I haven't read recent stats but w the advent of Covid I wouldn't be surprised to find it #1.
The National Center for Healthy Veterans has a very impressive facility designed just like this. They serve service veterans with PTSD, anxiety, family trauma, and physical trauma. Full scale farming and lots of physical labor are central to the curriculum. There is a prominent faith based element. Housing for vets and their family is provided. All at no charge. Lastly there are full scale mental and physcial health services provided on campus. An immersive lifestyle reset is often just what is needed. This program is a nine month residency at Valor Farm in Altavista Virginia. I have seen miracles happen here.
I think all Americans could reap enormous benefits from building a lifestyle that includes that type of balance. Our hearts and brains long for it and without it depression is a natural consequence. Faith in our creator and physical exercise while eating real food cures or prevents so many diseases and health issues.
Agree. Many of the recent residents here have lost limbs to roadside explosives. They built a multi-million dollar physical therapy center to support these needs. This is not a government program. It was created in response to the limitations of the Veterans Hospital approach. Outpatient counseling and pills. Nothing wholistic.
I love this...a friend's husband could really have used this at some point but he's been under the thumb of conventional treatment for so long he probably wouldn't have the strength to take advantage of this type of environment.
Everything in its appropriate time. I haven't read The Body Electric (except for Walt Whitman), but the current Med Beds are not an improvement in our human technology but a super-advanced technological gift to humanity from beings among our galactic family and friends.
It's really moving and inspiring to know that people like Beatrice are out there - people with compassion, vision and a desire to help. Try putting that in a pill.
Fabulous to see viable alternatives to big pharma take a pill philosophy. Human beings are complex but have a basic inner core with often unmet /unaddressed emotional needs.
I think this is amazing. I’ve seen so many people struggle on and off for years when their medication’s just keep getting changed instead of removed and getting to the root .
I’ve also seen a lot of healing through prayer and connection with God as our creator and healer, I pray places like this would become affordable and all over the country. Thank you for doing it.🙏
I am a mental health counselor, personal trainer, and nutrition coach. I have been practicing for 25 years. I am very familiar with the medication approach to treatment. As you know, it does not just apply to the psychiatric field. Secretary Kennedy was accurate in that we manage disease and do not promote wellness. Medication does have its place, but we would definitely benefit from a more preventative, proactive approach. Hence, I developed my practice as a way to promote health and wellness because I realized that the current method actually keeps people sick; It does not promote wellness but symptom management.
Perhaps you could unpack the place that medication (SSRI's) are suited from your vast experience? Have seen countless examples of Pineal gland calcified persons who have been "managed" by meds. They tend to be plastic faced incapable of authentic emotions.
I’m getting back into private practice after 20 years working in higher education. My undergrad is in kinesiology and my masters in counseling and I’d really love to start a practice that has this holistic approach. Would you be willing to share a link to your website and any suggestions for how to construct a practice that has this focus?
Sure, it's jasonwheatleyonline.com. I am in MI. You'll see my contact information on my website. I'd be glad to talk sometime. In regard to how to construct a practice of this type, it does involve obtaining professional certifications, which take some time, and then of course continuing your education in that specific discipline. There are also some professional licensing regulations that limit creating dual role relationships. I hope this helps!
Indeed! Time to continue creating health, starting with the inner spirit. So NO to the toxic drug and disease creation and management Big Pharma drug Cartel and insurance Mafia. End their reign of scamming, cheating and lying and fear based terror. Thank you for your continued efforts.
So excited that the conversation is shifting and we are recognizing that the brain is an organ which can “malfunction” or significantly struggle in a myriad of ways when not properly nourished! So many people in this country are overweight yet starving for proper nutrition, sunlight, mineralized clean water, and daily movement! The last thing they need are more chemicals 😢
I imagine that the Amish have deep compassion for us “English” as they see us failing and from the bottom turning back or forward to the health of farm life. Rhythm-nutrition-meaningful work. Thank you for this well-written article.
I love this so much. It's long overdue. The part about the drugs disempowering you really stuck with me. I think for people who know they have to take this pill every day otherwise they won't be able to deal w life is such a depressing thought in itself for them. I believe a lot of people on antidepressants have it in themselves, the willpower to stop but they need strong community support and meaning. What is profoundly lacking in our modern era of desk jobs and families spread too far apart. Integrative treatment and nutrition should be the first step before prescribing these serious drugs.
That sounds like Earth House in New Jersey, where I worked in the 1980 aand 90s treating mental illness with nutrition and physical activity and getting people off drugs. You can read about it in my book Natural Medicine' Bonnie Camo MD

I'm so sorry for the loss of your daughter. Absolutely heartbreaking.
Thank you. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to come to terms with.

We have a lifetime to improve.
Countless lifetimes.
or... parallel timelines
And yet legitimate pain patients who desperately need medication are left to suffer needlessly and treated as drug addicts. It's a very cruel and callous system.
Always a great idea to figure out the cause of pain and remediate.
Not dismissing suffering, or its legitimacy.
There are solutions. One must know where to shop...
You're obviously not a chronic pain sufferer. And yes, IATROGENIC illnesses are the 3rd largest cause of death.
Have "treated" several thousand
As you correctly point out, avoided it myself...
very well versed on largest dx in alleged cause of death
Cardiovascular and Malignancy have been vieing for top position for many years.
As you point out Iatrogenesis is ranked 3rd, however that stat
has qualifiers renderinig it far less prominent
Every major health issue I've suffered in my life, and that would be several, all caused by iatrogenics. And they've all been major and life altering. I haven't read recent stats but w the advent of Covid I wouldn't be surprised to find it #1.
You may be assuming the statistics are accurate, when they are suspect. For the Psyop of Covid, it was and to some extent is
the testing and even worse the lethal treatments.
So much so that Renegade Medical Docs are common.
30 million dead, a much larger # disabled from Insurance Actuary tables a couple years ago.

That is great news. As many similar models are discovered, health will improve.
Important not to exchange indoctrination venues.
One 82 yr old vet I know, has zero higher education, but advanced knowledge with
Biological soil improment strategies. Masterful.

Med Beds that can regrow limbs will soon be available to these veterans.
As seen on TV
The Med Beds have been dangled like a carrot before us for many years.
In the while a constant succession of electro magnetic diagnostic and treatment options have come and retired possibly due to improvements.
Dr. Robert O Becker in '98 wrote "The Body Electric". Limb regrowth was investigated and accomplished in amphibians. Fascinating details.
Technology improves exponentially.
Why delay the roll outs?
Everything in its appropriate time. I haven't read The Body Electric (except for Walt Whitman), but the current Med Beds are not an improvement in our human technology but a super-advanced technological gift to humanity from beings among our galactic family and friends.
Patience does in fact, bring roses.
You are very certain of their existence, origins, etc.
Have seen photos, or images, looks very impressive.
The great majority of residents are there for anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
Ibogaine has recently been reclassified as it has been proven to
be the most promising option from plant medicine.
A live in center has everything to do with community, life skills, and purpose.
That may best explain the success.

All have seen countless examples.
People simply sought assistance in the wrong offices.
Wonderful! That's the Spirit!
We're sending my wife's mother to one of these "farms." She keeps marking the furniture and it's just too much to deal with.

It’s so heartbreaking to see people lose their lives to the “medical” system
Our most at-risk population, the depressed and anxious, completely taken advantage of
Has been true for many decades, now, due to a variety of media,
the information is easy to attain and widespread. Every one is responsible for
their own choices and asking consistently better questions...
Adults are responsible for children, they often fail miserably.

Have been friends with large Amish family for a very long time.
They do not want conversation or much contact with the "English" due to value systems
being so different and incompatible. If values are similar they slowly open up.
Have been at their dinner table many times.
Another win for the good guys, and for humanity.
