Farmers, ranchers, and policymakers gathered at Sovereignty Ranch in Texas Hill Country for the American Regenerative Conference, focused on restoring soil health as the foundation of healthy food.
So yesterday, a Long Island farm vineyard practicing Biodynamic Farming received its Demeter Certification. The 3rd to receive it on the East Coast.
We invited the Kennedy Administration, press, local and otherwise, Zeldin, as it is in his backyard, Gaberino as it is in his district, and everyone else - press wine press, farmers, the Sierra Club.
Demeter came all of the way from Nebraska.
Only the hyper local papers came- not news 12, not Newsday, not Channel 11, Fox, ABC, NYPost. It was criminal.
The farmer is a veteran, Sierra club Environmentalist of the Year, his wife a Master Gardner and Advisor to Cornell Coop…at the e same time Newsday published a story about wondering why a farmer would rather sell their land to a developer.
We are at 38% farmland of what we were. Go figure.
Jennifer, for all of us who couldn't be there, thank you for this informative article. I'm not a farmer, but our family buys our meats and produce from 'regenerative-minded' farmers to support this move back into what has always made the most sense. US Wellness Meats (MO) and White Oak Pastures (GA) are two great examples, among so many others, that should be noted here. Healthy soil is a must and MAHA is giving consumers hope that this will be moving forward for our children and grandchildren's sake. Please continue to update us on how this is continues to grow, pun intended. :)
It was an awesome weekend hopefully many more to come
YES!
