The carte blanche to mess with foods started with the Truman administration seeing that they could make food cheaper with the new synthetics from WWII and decided to do so, such that a smaller portion of every dollar went to food so that a larger portion could go to buying washers, dryers, dish washers, radios, TV's and houses - all to positively impact the employment after soldiers returned from the war. Subsidies helped to feed the world. But food is also used as a weapon on the international scene. And at some point, food has become empty calories and ultimately the highly processed foods that we are all so well aware of these days. Legalized collusion between the govt, big ag, Pharma and the universities is how I call it. In around 1980, much govt public spending on public information evaporated and private companies started funding university people to test their products and get them govt approved. And it's been a race to the bottom ever since, in my opinion.

As for Trump, during the staff meeting, he had small, generational farmers at the meeting. He also had cattle ranchers there. I hope RFK, Jr. was somehow able to negotiate putting ultraprocessed food limits and language into the 2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which is due out this month. Big Food and Big Ag had their way with squashing UPF recommendations in the 2025 U.S. Dietary Guidelines Scientific Advisory Report and then again with the MAHA Strategy Report in September. The Dietary Guidelines are a critical document for the federal and state direction of food programs and can reset the conversation.
If only the EPA was under the auspices of HHS. Trump is far too cozy with big AG. Keep up the good fight MAHA! One way, or another this cabal must fall.
