It's so sad to learn of her death. She was a great lady.

I served as a Senate staffer when Teddy Kennedy arrived and worked with Robert Kennedy's staff

on the Government Operations Committee. Knew indirectly of Joan's struggles with alcohol, when later her success became an inspiration as I approach my 49th year of sobriety.

Condolences to Bobby and the entire family. A very beautiful lady and I had forgotten that she was a pianist. Remembering those years past... very different times.

I am very sorry to hear about this death. It's amazing she survived to that age of 89 given all the drinking she did. She sufferred a lot , anaesthesing herself from various torments , probably alone a lot . I can relate to that but not as bad.

Our bodies are very resilient but they have their limits regarding the ingestion of toxins.

I think a lot of people can relate to the Kennedys (amongst many other reasons) because they know what it's like to suffer, thus opening their hearts with compassion to all those out there who suffer from disciminations, bad health, despair, and anguish or whatever. They get us and we get them. Not many words have to be said. It's a visceral thing.

"God, whose law it is that he learns must suffer. And even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom by the awful grace of God"

Aeschylus

As often quoted by Robert Kennedy (Sr )
